Senior Seminar Formal Proposal Background: I picked alcoholism for my Senior Seminar project because my birth mother is an alcoholic and I want to better understand the “disease” and how it works. In my Senior Thesis project I am hoping to prove that alcoholism is not an actually disease though treated like one, it is just an addictive thinking pattern of the mind. Vision: I want my project to help people understand the importance of knowing what alcoholism is, and how it can be treated. I hope to help families and friends better understand the addiction with showing them helping ways to treat their alcoholic family members/friends. I am hoping to put on a benefit concert at Halligan’s Pub and raise money for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Goals: ·Help people understand the addiction ·Help people with ways to treat the addiction ·I want to reach out to those with alcoholic friends/family members and let them know they’re not alone and there is a way to help ·Help determine the most efficient ways to overcome the addiction ·To prove that alcoholism is not a disease Products: To show I have met my goals I will update my progress report every week on my Wiki space. I am not exactly sure how else I am going to prove that I have met my goals at the moment but I will find another way to show that I have met my deadlines. Task Analysis: I have all the materials, resources and additional information that I need at the moment to complete my project successfully. I hope to do the concert in early December and get approval from my boss, Joseph Halligan to do the concert by the end of October. Who: Shannen Quinn and myself What: Benefit Concert When: Early December Where: Halligan’s Pub How: By the power invested in me Mentor and Topic Expert Analysis: My mentor is Shannen Quinn and my topic expert is my sister, Jennifer Marie Upright. I picked Shannen Quinn as my mentor because she helps to keep me on task throughout the class and helps me organize my information. I picked Jennifer Marie Upright as my topic expert because she knows all about drugs and alcoholic addictions from past experiences. I plan on talking to my topic expert and mentor every day. I will keep them involved and excited about my project by keeping them up to date on what I am doing in class.
Conclusion: The personal importance of this project is to help myself understand alcoholic addictions and to get a grasp on how to help people deal with the addiction. The skills I need to help me complete this project are an open mind and willingness to complete all the allotted assignments.
